The IGASS Executive Committee and the IGASS Board would like to sincerely thank the sponsors, HERE LIST ALL OF THEM, for the strong support towards our organization in the past years. The principal sponsor Medtronic has now been joined by several contributors, greatly increasing our potential for global educational efforts. Although IGASS is an independent organization with no commercial interest depend on financial support from the implant industry.

Today, with ever increasing complexity and multitude of spinal surgical procedures, it is imperative to provide education at a level that meets the highest standards. The IGASS teachers are highly selected, and not only expert active surgeons but also active researchers at leading universities.

The platform for our teaching is Evidence Based Medicine on its most sophisticated level, i.e. combining internationally renowned expert opinion with knowledge derived from high quality scientific studies.

The last years we have expanded our efforts particularly in the non-western parts of the world with our IGASS Forums, which are educational days based on intensive case discussions involving the delegates extensively. Some meetings are held in conjunction with National or International Spine Societies and some with industry collaboration, in the latter case often followed by work-shops. Starting from the Liverpool ESS meeting October this year, the cases are presented on our web site with recommended treatment from an EBM perspective.

The format has been very successful with great feedback from attendants in the past years. The number of International Board Members of IGASS is constantly increasing and now includes over 37 leading academically active surgeons from all continents, including orthopaedic surgeons as well as neurosurgeons. IGASS with its long tradition of case based education has over the years been able to fine tune case based interactive education, which is now en vogue and now also put in the context of EBM.

Recently IGASS was granted CME credits (ECMEC) by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) for the annual Forum.

We again would like to invite you to work closely with IGASS in your efforts to stimulate education and knowledge. Our collaboration with the industry has so far proved very successful and we like to reach out to more companies for cooperation.

Again thank you for showing great interest in IGASS in years past, and hopefully we can find even stronger ways to work together in the future!

Sincerely,

Professor Rune HEDLUND
President iGASS 2014
