It is with deep sorrow that we pass on to you the sad news of the loss of our Board Member Dr Akram Shannak from Jordan.
Dr. Shannak passed away in January 2011 after staying in hospital for almost one year and 3 months unconscious.

We will keep a very good memory of our dear friend.
May his soul rest in peace.


April 2009

At the conference organized by the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC) and Spinal Cord Society (SCS) incollaboration with the International Group for Advancement in Spinal Science (IGASS) from 10th to 12th April 2009 at ISIC, New Delhi an IGASS fellowship was awarded to the following presenters for their presentations which were adjudged best and second best from amongst a total of 14:

Ms. Shallu Sharma, Lecturer, ISIC Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences – Effect of postero-anterior glide mobilization in acute sacro-iliac dysfunction for functional restoration.

Dr. B. Mohapatra, Research Associate, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, St. George Hospital, Australia & Jr. Consultant, Spine Service, ISIC (on study leave) – Early and Sustainable Improvement in pain are evident as soon as ten days after lumbar total disc replacement – a minimum follow-up of two years.

Medtronic International held the Summer University 2008 in St. Andrews, Scotland on July 2-5, 2008 hosted by Thanos Tsirikos and under the patronage of Rune Hedlund, Member of the Executive Committee and Vice President of IGASS.

Medtronic International held a Cadaver Lab Course in cooperation with IGASS and the Medical University of Geneva, Switzerland on January 24-25, 2008. The course under the topic ‘Surgical Strategies for Adolescent and Adult Deformity Correction’ was hosted by Prof. André Kaelin, Head of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Department, Hopitaux Universitaires de Genève (HUG), Member of the Executive Committee and Secretary of IGASS.
