Description

London is an unrivalled busy, diverse and dynamic global metropolitan hub specializing in finance, arts, music, law, culinary skills, least of all science, technology, and medicine. The London Bridge Hospital remains the flagship hospital for Health Care America (HCA) Hospitals where we pride ourselves in world class medical and surgical treatment of patients coming from all over the United Kingdom and around the world especially the Middle East. London is readily and easily accessible from all global primary and secondary cities.

The Centre for Spinal Studies and Surgery at the London Bridge Hospital is an AOSpine recognised training centre located opposite the landmark Shard Building, which also houses the Shard Medical Diagnostic Centre. More than 3000 spinal patients are reviewed in outpatients, and over 1000 surgeries performed in all aspects of paediatric and adult spinal pathologies. Spinal conditions treated include mainly degenerative, tumour, trauma, infections, inflammatory, as well as neuromuscular, revision and adult deformities. Spinal surgery spans cervical to pelvic, including minimally invasive, microsurgery, disc replacements (cervical and lumbar), neuromonitoring, navigation (O-Arm2) and complex osteotomies. We pride ourselves as being a reference centre for minimally invasive surgery (vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, TLIF, PLIF, ALIF, OLIF and XLIF) and well as disc replacement surgery.

What can a fellow expect?

The fellow will be able to engage in a wide field of mainly elective spinal disorders and  surgery. He or she will attend out-patient clinics, operating theatres (5 days, 3 operating theatres), general rounds, as well as multi-disciplinary conferences. The opportunity to scrub in surgery is also allowed as long as the appropriate blood tests and swabs are cleared beforehand. Also, there will be ample opportunity to enjoy the City by visiting the ever popular museums, opera houses, symphony houses, various famous landmarks, music halls and to taste the colourful and diverse culinary delights that our unique city regularly offers and never fails to please.

Although there are abundant hotels and accommodation spread across town, prices are generally very high and the quality of the accommodation cannot be guaranteed. To that end, arrangements have been made for fellows to stay right opposite the Hospital in a high security and comfortable 2 bedroom flat.
