The UMC Utrecht is an Academic Teaching Hospital with all specialties involved.
The hospital is in a suburb of the beautiful historic city of Utrecht with easy public transportation to and from the center of the city. The department of Orthopaedic Surgery (Chair: Prof dr Rene M Castelein) has a strong focus on spinal surgery with approximately 330 instrumented fusions for varying indications performed yearly.
The spine staff consists of professor Rene Castelein, professor Cumhur Oner, dr Jorrit Jan Verlaan and dr Moyo Kruyt. Tumors, trauma, infections, and adult and pediatric deformities are treated on a daily basis in an acute or elective setting. Fellows can be present at the clinic, during daily rounds and morning - and afternoon reports, and can scrub in at surgery. There is a close collaboration with the department of Neurosurgery, fellows can assist at intradural procedures if they wish.
Housing can be provided, meals can either be obtained in the hospital or at several restaurants from low via medium to high budget. Internet access is provided.
