The Alb-Fils Hospitals  (AFK) consist of two facilities Göppingen and Geislingen with 850 beds and provides the health care for the county of Göppingen with 250.000 inhabitants. The AFK belongs to the region of Stuttgart with the airport Stuttgart being close.

The Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology consists of 136 beds on 4 wards plus childs ward.  Approximately 4000 patients are treated per year with 4300 surgeries. All aspects of orthopedic pathologies are treated, with a special focus on spine. Spinal conditions covered include mainly trauma, tumors, infections, degenerative conditions and adult deformity. Spinal surgery spans cervical to pelvic, including minimal-invasive, microsurgery, neuromonitoring, navigation and osteotomies. Besides all types of musculoskeletal surgeries are performed within the department.  


What can a fellow expect?

The fellow will be able to engage in a wide field of spinal and if interested general musculoskeletal disorders, from scheduled to emergency. He or she will attend out-patient clinic, operating theatres (5 days, 3-4 operating theatres), general rounds, polytrauma management and internal as well as multi-disciplinary conferences. The opportunity to scrub in is given. Also, there should be time to enjoy Göppingen and its surroundings e.g. Stuttgart, Ulm or Munich.

Guest rooms are available in the hospital depending on duration of stay.
